Vaginal Birth

Vaginal Birth Overview: Vaginal birth is a process where the mother naturally delivers her baby through the birth canal. It is the most commonly preferred method of childbirth as long as the health of both the mother and the baby permits. Dr. Yeliz Akçelik provides comprehensive care before, during, and after childbirth to ensure the safety and health of both the mother and the baby.

Benefits of Vaginal Birth: Vaginal birth offers several advantages for both the mother and the baby. The postpartum recovery period is generally faster as there is no need for surgical intervention. Passing through the birth canal during birth can reduce the risk of postpartum respiratory problems for the baby and contribute to the development of the immune system.

Birth Process: Vaginal birth occurs in three stages:

First Stage - Dilation: This stage begins with the cervix starting to dilate due to contractions. Initially irregular, contractions become regular over time and occur more frequently. When the cervix is fully dilated (10 cm), the second stage of birth begins.

Second Stage - Pushing and Delivery: During this stage, the mother helps the baby progress through the birth canal by pushing along with contractions. When the baby's head emerges from the birth canal, the entire body is guided out with the assistance of the doctor.

Third Stage - Delivery of the Placenta: After the baby is born, with continued contractions, the placenta detaches from the uterus, completing the birthing process.

Epidural Anesthesia: Epidural anesthesia is a commonly used method to reduce pain during vaginal birth. Pain-relieving drugs are administered through a catheter placed in the mother's lower back. This method allows the mother to focus on the birthing process and relax.
